Marking points

  1. 1 Identifies variation between members of a species.
  2. 2 Explains that better-adapted individuals survive.
  3. 3 Explains that survivors reproduce.
  4. 4 Explains that favourable alleles, genes or mutations are passed on.

Full-mark answer

Individuals in a species show variation. Those with characteristics that make them better adapted are more likely to survive and reproduce, passing the favourable alleles to their offspring.

Why this answer loses marks

The strongest animals survive.

This omits pre-existing variation, reproduction and the inheritance of favourable alleles.
