  1. 1 The circle identifies the complete –O–C(=O)– ester linkage and does not instead select the alkene group.

Why this answer loses marks

Circle only the carbon-to-oxygen double bond.

A carbonyl alone is incomplete; the ester group also contains the neighbouring single-bonded oxygen.
