Q01.4 4 marks

Decreasing the amount of carbon dioxide released by different activities will help slow down climate change.

Transport and generating electricity are the two activities that released the largest amounts of carbon dioxide in the UK in 2018.

Marking points

  1. 1 Explains a valid transport change by identifying both the carbon-emitting practice to reduce and a suitable alternative.
  2. 2 Explains a valid electricity-generation change by identifying both the carbon-emitting practice to reduce and a suitable alternative or demand reduction.

Full-mark answer

Transport: use electric cars or walk/cycle instead of burning petrol or diesel in cars. Generating electricity: replace coal-, oil- or gas-fired generation with renewable sources such as wind power.

Why this answer loses marks

Use less energy and use cleaner transport.

This is too vague for either activity. Identify the carbon-emitting practice and a specific valid change for transport and for electricity generation.
