  1. 1 Divides the change in mass (0.96 g) by the starting mass (15.54 g) and multiplies by 100.
  2. 2 Obtains an unrounded percentage of approximately 6.1776%.

Full-mark answer

Percentage change = (0.96 ÷ 15.54) × 100 = 6.1776…%, so X = 6.2% to 1 decimal place.

Why this answer loses marks

Divide the change by the final mass, then convert it to a percentage.

Percentage change uses the starting mass as the denominator, not the final mass.
