Marking points

  1. 1 Uses a correct conversion or equivalent square-area calculation.
  2. 2 Reaches 0.25 m² (or ¼ m²).

Full-mark answer

50 cm = 0.5 m. Area = 0.5 m × 0.5 m = 0.25 m².

Why this answer loses marks

I multiplied the side lengths but left the area in square centimetres.

The requested unit is square metres, so the area-unit conversion is still missing.
