Marking points

  1. 1 State that the chemical energy store of the fuel decreases.
  2. 2 State that the thermal energy store of the water increases.
  3. 3 State that the thermal energy store of the air or atmosphere increases.

Full-mark answer

The chemical energy store of the fuel decreases. The thermal energy store of the water increases, and some energy also increases the thermal energy store of the air or atmosphere in the hot exhaust gases.

Why this answer loses marks

Energy is made by the boiler and goes into the water.

Energy stores must be described; energy is transferred, not created.
