Energy Store Changes in a Climbing Drone
A drone is a miniature aircraft that has a remote control. An inventor designed a battery powered drone. The inventor tested what would happen if the battery runs out of charge during a flight. Figure 5 shows the inventor about to launch the drone.
Describe two other changes to the energy stores of the drone as it moved at a constant speed and gained height.
Write your answer first. You can study the marking guidance whenever you need it.
Study the marking See what earns credit and compare it with a full-mark answer.
Marking points
- 1 States that the chemical energy store decreases.
- 2 States that the drone’s gravitational potential energy store increases.
Full-mark answer
The chemical energy store decreases, and the drone’s gravitational potential energy store increases.
Why this answer loses marks
The kinetic energy store increases.
The drone moves at constant speed, so that store does not increase; identify the battery-store change and the height-linked store change.
