Frequency f, wavelength and wave speed v equation

Q01.4 1 mark

Use the Physics Equations Sheet to answer questions 01.4 and 01.5.

Write down the equation that links frequency (f)(f), wavelength (λ)(\lambda) and wave speed (v)(v).

Write your answer first. You can study the marking guidance whenever you need it.

Marking points

  1. 1 Write the correct wave equation: wave speed = frequency × wavelength, or v=fλv=f\lambda.

Full-mark answer

v=fλv=f\lambda

Why this answer loses marks

v=f/λv=f/\lambda

The equation requires multiplying frequency by wavelength, not dividing by wavelength.
