Risks of large vehicle decelerations
A car contains a black box that records the velocity and acceleration of the car.
If the black box records large decelerations, it identifies that the driving may be dangerous.
Explain why large decelerations may be dangerous.
Write your answer first. You can study the marking guidance whenever you need it.
Study the marking See what earns credit and compare it with a full-mark answer.
Marking points
- 1 Give a valid danger mechanism for large decelerations, such as brake overheating, loss of control, or a greater force.
- 2 Link that mechanism to a consequence: overheated brakes may not work properly, tyres may lose grip, or large forces can cause injury.
Full-mark answer
Large decelerations mean large forces act on the car and people in it, and large forces can cause injury.
Why this answer loses marks
The brakes can overheat.
This gives a valid first marking point, but it needs the linked consequence that the brakes may not work properly for the second mark.
