Marking points
- 1 Explains how a glaciated UK area creates economic opportunity, not just names a land use.
- 2 Uses one or more valid opportunities such as tourism, farming, forestry or quarrying.
- 3 Explains two or more opportunities for top Level 2, though one clear opportunity can access low Level 2.
Full-mark answer
Glaciated areas provide tourism opportunities because their mountains, lakes and valleys attract visitors for walking, cycling and water sports, creating jobs in hotels, shops and outdoor centres. They can also provide farming opportunities: valley floors have deeper soils and flatter land, while upland areas can be used for sheep grazing because sheep tolerate cold, wet conditions. Quarrying of hard rock can also provide stone for construction and employment.
Why this answer loses marks
Glaciated areas have tourism and farming.
The answer needs to explain how those activities create economic opportunities such as jobs, products or spending.
