Marking points
- 1 Gives one valid, specific environmental damage caused directly or indirectly by urban sprawl.
- 2 Gives a second distinct valid environmental damage.
Full-mark answer
1. Building over countryside removes vegetation and destroys habitats, reducing biodiversity. 2. Extra road traffic from a spread-out settlement increases air pollution and greenhouse-gas emissions.
Why this answer loses marks
Urban sprawl causes pollution and makes places less attractive.
Pollution is not qualified by type or cause, and the second phrase is not a separate specific environmental damage.
