- 2 Explains how the revelation affects characters or power.
- 3 Analyses Priestley's dramatic methods.
Full-mark answer
A strong response might discuss the final phone call or Eric's accusation that Mrs Birling killed Eva. It would explain why the revelation is shocking and analyse stage directions, repetition, pronouns and structural echoes such as the phone mirroring the earlier doorbell.
Why this answer loses marks
The final phone call is shocking because another inspector is coming.
This names a valid revelation but does not explore its effect on power or analyse Priestley’s dramatic structure.
